A Neglected Issue

We've barely heard a peep from the Presidential candidates about their plans to improve our public education system.

In my opinion, there should be at least one full debate devoted entirely to this topic once the general election begins.

Bob Herbert wrote this 3 minute piece in the New York Times that shows how bad we are failing our young people today and the consequences that might have for tomorrow.

i finally heard back from Senator Mark Pryor regarding the montgomery GI bill. i found out after emailing him that he serves on the armed services committee and has been a strong voice for veteran's rights.

the letter he sent outlined the montgomery bill, its progress through the senate thus far, and also brought my attention to the Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2007, which focuses on "certain individuals who serve on active duty in the Armed Forces on or after September 11, 2001."

Senator Lincoln had emailed me back but i forgot to mention it to you.

a somewhat successful first attempt at activism. i think i'll be doing it again soon.

Hi Megan -

Thanks for this update! I have to admit I didn't realize that Mark Pryor was on the Armed Services Committee. He's seems to be a pretty quiet Senator :) That being said, he has always been pretty responsive to my emails - significantly more so than Senator Lincoln... so I give him a lot of credit for that...

Keep me posted if you have any other interesting correspondence with either of them and I'll do the same. :)
